Words from the head coaches, administrators, players, and support staff who have worked alongside Krys Burnett.
Not everyone here has a whistle. That's the point.
"Krys has been a valued member of our athletics department, consistently demonstrating professionalism, dependability, and a strong commitment to excellence. She approaches her work with maturity, integrity, and a team-first mindset, while carrying herself in a way that reflects positively on the university. Her versatility, steady presence, and ability to support others at a high level make her a strong asset to any athletics department. I recommend her with confidence and believe she will continue to make a meaningful impact wherever she goes."
"Krys Burnett is a talented, engaging and enthusiastic professional! Her never-ending commitment to growth in her field, continuing to develop her knowledge and skills to be the best in every way possible, is truly remarkable. Furthermore, she is so caring and committed to the success and well-being of those around her — coaches, student-athletes, colleagues, everyone. She is a bright light that shines near and far!"
Coach Krys responds:
"If athletic directing is ever in the cards, AD McCoy is the first call. The people's champ. Had the pleasure of working under her for most of my time at Washington State, and she was always personable, professional, and genuinely likable. She truly cared about getting to know her staff members, and that stood out. Grateful for the time spent in her office picking her brain about life, athletics, and what it's like to sit in the AD chair. A lot of my approach to the business of athletics has been shaped by observing and learning from her, and I'm grateful our paths crossed on this journey."
"Krys brings a collaborative approach to the athletic department and cares about the people around her. She's always welcoming, with a smile and a warm hello for coworkers. Krys is a hard worker who aims to support team efforts and help create a positive, team-oriented environment."
Coach Krys responds:
"Kelli is such a welcoming presence at WSU, and it is always a joy to be around her at work. Her team works hard and speaks highly of her, which made me want to get to know her more and closely observe how she operates in a professional environment. Gained valuable insight simply by watching the way she leads, communicates, and carries herself, and am especially grateful for her open-door approach, which created space for questions, learning, and a deeper understanding of collegiate athletics."
"What I remember most from my three years with Coach Krys is the first day of practice and especially my first year. As an international player struggling with the language, Krys helped me a lot off the court by explaining things so I could translate them during practice, and she was always a strong, positive voice. She also guided me through decision-making in video sessions, which really helped my understanding of the game. She's always smiling, with the best energy and approach, and that made a huge difference in my experience."
Coach Krys responds:
"Coach Ethridge really knows how to recruit kind, caring, and hardworking young women! Ele's presence brings instant joy, and she's truly a joy to be around. As a freshman in her first year, stepping into the big world of the U.S. and college basketball, I just wanted to make sure she was good. It was special to watch how quickly she learned, and now here she is, a U.S. pro. Lol. So happy to have been a part of Ele's journey, and for her to have been a part of mine. She's a beast on the court and one of the sweetest, kindest people off it. Just a great young woman all around."
"Having Coach Krys on the team means having good energy around, always. She is friendly and easy to talk to, and she has a way of making every practice feel better just by being there. No matter what kind of day you are having, she brings a good mood and lifts people up without even trying. That kind of presence is rare and it means more than she knows."
Coach Krys responds:
"Made it a point to be someone who brings good energy and makes the people around me feel seen, supported, and better. But can't take all the credit. The players who come to Washington State, especially Marta, make it easy to walk into practice, feel good, and be that way. Marta is respectful, kind, and a great player. She was always smiling, always willing to have a conversation, and always a great teammate. Truly enjoyed being part of her journey, and will always be rooting for her in whatever she does."
"Coach Krys is one of the most high energy, giving, and selfless coaches I have gotten the privilege to learn from. I don't know how she did it but without fail every day she came in with a smile on her face and an attitude that made me want to be a better teammate and person for others. I will always remember how kind and supportive she was when I went through my injury. Going out of her way to make a booklet for me that really helped me mentally get through that rehab process. She is an amazing coach, and any player that has the honor to have her as a leader is lucky."
Coach Krys responds:
"Juice is just a different breed. I remember my first visit to Washington State so clearly. CLW, who I call Juice, was the first player to welcome me on my visit, and then again on my first official day, welcoming me to the family with a hug. That always stuck with me because she was a phenomenal player, the best on the team and one of the best I had ever seen, yet she still made people feel seen. In my years of coaching, that is rare. From then on, every time I saw her, she spoke to me and everyone around her. That's just who she is. She carries herself with grace on and off the court, and she has a presence that naturally makes people admire and respect her. When she got hurt, I just felt led to remind her that she was going to be A-OK and that the comeback is always stronger than the setback. I always loved being around Juice and being in her presence, and it's been beautiful to watch her continue to shine at UCLA."
"One of my favorite things about working for / with Krys is that she was so willing to teach me and help me improve while also being so willing to learn from me. She works so hard at improving herself that it's infectious and made me want to learn more and work even harder. She has the rare ability to both drive people to work really hard while making the hard long nights on the road be something I looked forward to."
Coach Krys responds:
"To have been blessed with a lot of people who poured into my journey to Division 1 coaching genuinely surprises me. Nothing but favor. I told myself if I made it to my dream, I would pour into others around me the same. Those late nights on the road drawing plays, scouting, and washing clothes when everyone was sleep, I never minded. I leave no staff behind. I am my brothers and sisters keeper. If you need analytics for your program, Robin would be a valuable addition to any program."
"I've had the opportunity to work alongside Krys in the office as a standout creative talent. Through my years working in-house, as a sports creative my entire career, I've crossed paths with many designers who have made an impact on me both professionally and personally. Krys holds the bar high in that she's one that I'll never forget — she's professional, kind, honest, humble, and sincere. I've told her (many times) that she's someone I'd always want 'on my team,' someone who understands TEAM better than anyone I know. Not only does she respect the established brand we are stewards of at Washington State University, but she does it with imagination, compassion, enthusiasm, and grit. She goes above and beyond to think outside the box of your typical sports creative approach, she researches ideas/inspiration, she experiments with the most recent technology and new techniques, and through her hard work and distinctive designs you'll see that she cares deeply about our student-athletes, our teams, our community, and her consistent role as a source of positive and productive influence. Anyone would be fortunate to have Krys' infectious spirit on their squad, rooting everyone on because she's a person and a coach who puts others before herself and understands, wholeheartedly, that the best successes are the ones celebrated together."
Coach Krys responds:
"Ms. Lisa has been such a blessing to me. Had an online tutor, but was looking for someone in person to bounce ideas off of and grow with creatively, and Lisa became that person in graphic design and beyond. She manages graphic design for all of WSU Athletics, so the fact that she still made time to answer questions, let me learn from her, and even provided a place to work nearby means more than can be fully expressed. Incredibly grateful for her teamwork, friendship, and willingness to invest, especially when she did not have to and already had more than enough on her plate. More than anything, she showed me what TEAM truly looks like, and that same spirit is something to carry into every interaction, because from experience, that kind of support changes people."
"Krys and I worked together in the Washington State University Athletics department from February 2024 - February 2026. Right away, I could see her care and concern for others was unmatched. While executing her role with women's basketball at the highest level, Krys also made time to check in on coworkers around the department! My experience at WSU was made better each and every time I would interact with Krys. She is a true team player that strives to be successful herself, but also wants others to achieve their goals! I highly recommend Coach Burnett for any organization wanting the above mentioned qualities and employees with incredible character."
Coach Krys responds:
"Basketball is my job, but genuinely caring about the people around me is not part of a job description. That's just who I am, and Jason saw that. That means more than he probably knows. Checking in with him and interacting with him made my days at WSU better. His presence and the way he carried himself gave me a great example of how to move, both professionally and personally. He was a great colleague, an even better friend, and someone I truly needed during my time at WSU, especially while adjusting to being across the country with hometown ties."
"Coach Burnett brings high energy that stems from her passion for seeing her athletes grow and shine. She loves people, leads with humility, yet demands excellence. When you think about rising stars in the women's college basketball sphere, her name is on a very short list."
Coach Krys responds:
"Jose was the first athletic director at the college level, and coming from high school, the next step was an unknown. It ended up being better than imaginable. There's a strong belief here in going where you are appreciated, not tolerated, where people recognize the value and worth you know you bring. Jose and Montreat did that. Looking back now, deeply grateful to have been in that space, around those people, during such a meaningful part of this journey."
Krystal is a joy to work with. She is a hard working coach that is willing to do whatever it takes to help the program and the team succeed. She is passionate about teaching and helping people reach their full potential on and off the court. I absolutely loved my time working with her.
Coach Krys responds:
"If 'I got you' was a person, it would be Coach Thompson. Moved to North Carolina to pursue a dream, and at that time, all I really had there was me. When Josh came in as head coach, he immediately welcomed me into his family, his wife, and their three sons. Was around them a lot, and they made North Carolina feel like home away from home. He was there when my grandmother passed away and when my father passed away. Those were moments that could have broken me, but having Coach Thompson in my corner made all the difference. He became more than a coach. He became a big brother and someone who will always have a seat at my table. Loyalty is everything, and Josh will always have mine because he's truly a man of God and he treated me right. On the basketball side, he trusted me and gave me ownership of part of the program, which meant a lot. One of the top five memories at Montreat was simply walking to the café with Josh for lunch and eating together every day. I love that dude, and there isn't much I wouldn't do for him."
"I had the privilege of bringing Coach Krys on staff at Montreat College in 2022. Upon meeting Krys, her enthusiasm and desire to step in and serve wherever needed was apparent. Her passion about basketball, attention to detail and creativity became a staple within our program. More importantly, a desire to pour into the lives of our players, not just as players but people. Coach Krys' willingness to assist in whatever way to improve our program, is what I believe makes her an asset to any program. It was a joy to have worked alongside Coach Krys!"
Coach Krys responds:
"Coach Lewis gave me my first college coaching opportunity. As a woman in a field where I had once been overlooked, dismissed, and not treated with the respect I deserved specifically by men, T-Lew healed my jadedness just by being the kind of man he is. I had never seen a man like him before. The environment he created for his family, his staff, and his players was unlike anything I had ever experienced. He doesn't know any of this because I never told him. But if he's reading this right now... surprise Coach! Grateful to have been in your presence. The good lord knew I needed you in my coaching journey."
"Really appreciated having Krys as an assistant coach. She was always someone we could count on for guidance and support. Her positive energy, strong work ethic, and ability to motivate others made a big impact on the team. She created a great environment and was truly a joy to be around."
Coach Krys responds:
"Loved having the opportunity to witness Mariya's journey up close. The next opportunity came, and she was ready. Maturity, purpose, a renewed mindset. She carried herself the right way through all of it and grew on both sides of the game. Watching that reminded me that real growth happens when someone is honest with themselves and intentional about moving forward. That's exactly what she did. Her journey is one I'll always respect, and it's been awesome to watch her keep achieving at every stop along the way."
"I loved having Coach Krys as my coach! It's always something about a coach that pushes you and believes in you even more than you believe in yourself that really sticks with you! I never once questioned if she had my back or was there for me because she always was and she vouched for me in rooms I wasn't in. I think me and Coach really connected because we both had that hard working, dog mentality. Always putting the work in to get the job done and do our part to make not only ourselves but the team better. Outside of basketball she was a rock for me also. I knew whenever I needed someone to talk to, give me advice, or just to be there to listen, her door was always open and for that I'm forever grateful. She is truly one of the best and the time she spent as my coach will always be a cherished one!"
Coach Krys responds:
"Vaniyah was a part of my first college basketball team, and the transition was nerve-wracking. But her personality and genuineness made it easy right away. Since day one, believed in her and respected the way she worked and carried herself. We definitely shared that hard-working, dog mentality. She reminded me of myself at her age, and in some ways she was even better. That made me want to help bring her greatness out and take it to the next level. Coaching V was a joy, and she set the tone for how I wanted to show up for every player who came after her. Glad she knew I had her back, because that was real every time. From workouts, to talks on the coaches' couch, to hanging out, to hyping her up after games because the mentality and performance made me proud. Always proud of V. Always will be. Always rooting for her."
"Krys Burnett is a driven, determined professional with a strong work ethic and a bright future. She is also a loyal friend, and I am confident she will continue to do great things."
Coach Krys responds:
"Was introduced to Ebony while at Montreat College and looking for advice on how to navigate the college basketball world. She was gracious with her time, genuinely helpful, and from that moment we built a meaningful relationship. Ebony is the standard for me, both as a coach and as a person. The way she speaks to people, makes them feel valued, and intentionally pours into those around her reflects the kind of leader and woman she is. Continue to be in awe of her, and being around her always challenges me to carry myself at that same standard. Her confidence, her faith, and the words she has poured into me have had a lasting impact on my life. She is one of the best human beings I know, and grateful for every moment I get to be in her presence."
"During COVID, Coach Krys Burnett showed unmatched dedication during our Coaches Hang-Time Zooms. Always the first to log on and the last to sign off, even while coaching at the high school level and different time zones. Through her hard work and perseverance, she earned an NAIA assistant position and has now worked her way onto the coaching staff at Washington State as Assistant Coach / Video Coordinator. It's been incredible to watch her growth, and I'm excited to see what's in store for her next."
Coach Krys responds:
"Those Coaches Hang-Time Zooms during COVID meant the world to me while still coaching high school. Hooked from the start and never missed an episode. Dario gets a lot of credit for my growth in the college coaching profession and for much of the success along the way. A mentor, a good friend, and one of the best men I know. When the first college job at Montreat came through, Dario was the only college coach who consistently checked in every quarter to keep me encouraged. That kind of support meant everything."
"I have known Coach Krys Burnett since 2021 when she joined my Growth Mindset Coaches Zoom group. I found her to be a highly dedicated professional with a strong work ethic. I have watched her perform in her role as Assistant Coach at Washington State University. She is a positive team player who fosters collaboration with her personality, imagination and efficiency."
Coach Krys responds:
"Coach Mats has been one of my biggest blessings in this game. Real favor. Being laid-back, low key, and more of an observer, was just happy and grateful to be in the room. But the day I spoke up after one of the Growth Mindset Zooms, she truly listened. Not just heard me, but listened. From that moment on, she became a mentor who has helped navigate this journey with wisdom, support, and care. Beyond grateful for every conversation shared and for the way she has poured into me along the way."
"Krys and I began working together in the fall of 2023, and over the course of nearly three years through the spring of 2026, I've had the privilege of watching her grow in remarkable ways. As the assistant basketball coach for the Washington State Cougars women's basketball program, graphic design was never a requirement of her role. However, recognizing the importance of recruiting and promoting games and events, Krys took the initiative to develop these skills on her own — something that immediately set her apart. When we started, she had no prior experience with Photoshop. What she did have, though, was the mindset of a true athlete. Krys showed up consistently — often 3 to 5 times per week — with the determination to improve, learn, and push herself beyond her comfort zone. She approached every session with a winning attitude, positive energy, and a genuine enthusiasm that made her an absolute pleasure to work with. What stands out most about Krys is her commitment to doing things the right way. She asks thoughtful questions, puts in the effort to understand the 'why' behind the process, and never settles for shortcuts if they compromise quality. That level of care speaks volumes about both her professionalism and her character. I have no doubt that whatever she chooses to pursue, she will continue to excel and make a meaningful impact."
Coach Krys responds:
"Sulman has been with me since the beginning of my D1 college coaching journey, and honestly get emotional even thinking about that. God brought him into my life at a time when help was truly needed, and what started as something as simple as needing assistance with graphic design turned into one of the most genuine, meaningful friendships ever built from scratch. Found him randomly, but there was nothing random about what God was doing. He became part of this life in a way I never saw coming, but now I can't imagine the journey without him in it. At this point, it's not about needing Sulman because the skill level has grown. I've grown. I can do more now. But I still want him around because of the kind of man he is. His character, his wisdom, his knowledge, and the way he has poured into me have left a mark that won't go away. He has a seat at my table and always will. He is a voice I trust, a voice of growth, a voice of wisdom, and a voice of encouragement I will always listen to. Some people come into your life for a season. Sulman is one of the people I pray stays through the whole journey, because his presence has truly meant that much to me."
